System: Obscura (2025)
Projection Mapped Video Installation
Developed during a two-month open studio session at Turntable Gallery, this experimental work in progress uses projection mapping to explore new ways of presenting video within one of the gallery’s cold store chambers. Conceived and produced in the two days leading up to the Finissage, the piece takes the form of a clunky, biomechanical living wall, where each of the 18 fragments contributes to the functioning of the whole; a grotesque system stitched together yet somehow still alive.
Technotage (2024)
Digital Film Installation
Music: BrettJayB
Technotage is a site-specific audiovisual montage designed for a former cold store chamber at Turntable Gallery, Grimsby. Drawing on over 30 public domain films and set to a pulsating techno mix, the work reimagines Soviet montage techniques to explore how fragmented loops of thought, memory, and media shape our realities. By collapsing high and low culture into an immersive, confrontational space, Technotage reflects the frenetic pace of the digital age while inviting viewers to question the systems that shape belief and perception. Originally created for the Lightworks Exhibition at Grimsby Minster in 2010, this piece experimented with recontextualising public domain footage into new interlinking narratives. Completely reedited and expanded in 2024.
Current experiements
During my DYCP period, I have been independently exploring projection mapping through MadMapper, experimenting with layering and arranging multiple videos on a single wall with no sound. These tests have revealed how different editing modes can shift the relationship between moving image and space, and the addition of a mask has produced intriguing effects with shadow, an avenue I will be exploring further. One outcome of this process is a planned dual triptych of videos, exploring the relationship and dialogue between the opposing triptychs.
